There are plenty of reasons to enjoy tonight's Jewish Women in Harmony: A Musical Evening for Women at the Shwayder Theater (350 S. Dahlia Street in the Robert E. Loup Jewish Community Center). One would be the marvelous lineup of talented local songstresses. Another would be the general sense of sisterhood among a multigenerational audience that the production was designed to impart in the first place. But there is also a bonafide star on the bill, too: British-born Jewish entertainer Caroline Cohen, who stars across the nation in her own one-woman touring show, From Showbiz to Shabbos.
Also sharing the stage with the incomparable Cohen during this woman-centric Purim concert are Naviella Lapidot, lead vocalist for the Denver-based klezmer group Los Lantzmun (who specializes in songs from Yemenite Jewish culture), teen-aged phenom and cantor's daughter Shayna Goldstein and other silvery voices. I expect the evening will be somewhat akin to getting a great big hug from an aproned bubba with flour on her hands... set to music.
The melodies and female bonding begin at 7 p.m.; tickets are $15 to $20 in advance or $20 to $25 at door. Go to the Jewish Community Center's website or call either 303-316-6358 or 303-316-6359 to learn more.
