Update: Yesterday, we told you about a double stabbing/suicide in Longmont in which a son apparently attacked his parents, killing his father and critically wounding his mother, before taking his own life; see our previous coverage below.

The person who committed the crimes has now been identified as Omar Martinez, 34 — and new information is emerging about a custody dispute and mental illness that may have contributed to the tragedy.

Martinez's Facebook page remains online at this writing.

His photo gallery is filled with photos of him with his three sons, each of whom reportedly has a different mother.
The one at the top of this item was shared on March 16 along with a caption that reads, "Catching up on lost time with my baby!"

The week before, on March 9, he shared a photo of him with his parents.

His mother hasn't been publicly identified.

His father was Epifanio Martinez, 69:

The post reads: "Having breakfast @McDonald's with my parents, I LOVE my parents! Their pick...I had a few bites, not much though. LOL. Coffee was good."

One of the women with whom Martinez had a child insisted in a 7News interview that he was no monster.

However, she said he had "battled psychosis and bipolar disorder and was off his medication."

These struggles appear to have raised law enforcement concerns.

9News reports that "police had been to the home before because of concerns over Omar's mental health and the well-being of his grade school-aged child, who was removed from the home just before the stabbings."

The station adds that Martinez actually called the cops prior to the stabbings to inquire about the procedures for regaining custody of his son.

As far as we can tell, there's only one piece of good news in the wake of this horrific situation:

Martinez's mother is now expected to recover from her injuries.

In the meantime, our thoughts are with Martinez's children and anyone else mourning the various losses in Longmont late on March 17.

Update, 8:35 a.m. March 18: New reports about the Longmont stabbing that took place overnight clarify that two men were killed in the incident, with a woman critically injured.

According to Fox31, the man rescued from the home, as described below, was actually the 69-year-old father of the 34-year-old man who committed suicide. The father later died, but the man's 58-year-old mother remains in critical condition.

Possible motive: The suspect's child was reportedly removed from the home yesterday.

Continue for our previous coverage, which has been updated to reflect the new information.

View Larger MapPolice are said to have received a call at approximately 10:50 p.m. last night.

The report: a stabbing.

Upon their arrival, officers found a woman across the street from the home suffering from stab wounds.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital.

Her name hasn't been released, but she is 58-years old.

Here's a tweet from the scene sent by CBS4 reporter Lane Lyon:
Hours later, at around 1:10 a.m., another man was "rescued" from the home, a Longmont Police Department spokesman told the media.

During the interim, a SWAT team had been deployed and a robot was eventually used to enter the residence.

The rescued man subsequently died of his injuries, while the stabbing suspect appears to have taken his own life.

Additionally, the LPD stresses that there is no danger to the community — a phrase frequently utilized as a way of letting the public know that the suspected attacker is dead or in custody.

At this hour, investigators remain on the scene of this tragic slaying.

Here's an early 7News report.
