Wonder of Wonders at the Center for the Arts Evergreen (Friday, free) Step into a surreal carnival tonight at this traveling exhibit in Evergreen. Five local artists have created pieces inspired by a circus that includes attractions like the Amazing Chicken Man and the World's Tiniest Elephant. The artists will be on hand to discuss their work; there will also be a live performance by the Snowflake Circus.Semillas de Colorado: Stories From the Struggle at Su Teatro (Friday, by donation) Get inspired by a Romero Theater Troupe performance this evening that celebrates Colorado's unsung activist heroes. From a 1932 splash-in at Washington Park to protest discriminatory swimming rules to a more recent tale of a woman picketing the Tanner Gun Show, these untold stories will unfold on the stage. The event is free, but donations will be accepted for the Harm Reduction Center -- so you can support a good cause while getting a good dose of fascinating Colorado history.
National Parks Week (Friday-Sunday, free) Get out into nature and explore Colorado's national parks this weekend -- without having to pay entrance fees. Hike in Rocky Mountain National Park, explore Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument or see other marvels without having to pay a penny. Food Not Bombs Fundraiser at the Denver Art Society (Saturday, by donation) Food Not Bombs wants to help diminish world hunger by taking perfectly good food that supermarkets throw out and cooking meals for people in need. The Denver chapter currently serves food twice a week: Wednesdays at Civic Center Park and Saturdays at Sunken Gardens Park at 4 p.m., but the organizaation is looking to expand. A benefit today with live music, an art auction, food and local beer will raise money to help Food Not Bombs continue its mission of cutting down on food waste and putting meals in the mouths of the hungry.
The American Chekhov Project Open Rehearsal at the 910 Arts Gallery (Sunday, free) Watch the process of live theater evolve at this open rehearsal with Visionbox actors' studio.
