The Young Hot & Gay Tour at the Voodoo Comedy Playhouse (Friday, $10) On tour from Los Angeles, Heather Turman, Jordan Pease and Tara Egnatios will be in town tonight -- and they're bringing their laughs with them. The trio will serve up a haping helping of their fresh LGBTQ comedy, billed as "showing the world what this generation of GAY is."
Be a Cloud Not a Grid at Vertigo Art Space (Friday, free) Inspired by philosopher Sianne Ngai, eleven artists have created works exploring ideas that, in Ngai's words, "revolve around multiple and even conflicting feelings: tenderness and aggression, in the case of the cute; fun and unfun, in the case of the zany; interest and boredom, in the case of the interesting and...these categories are a reflection upon contemporary feelings of powerlessness." Mike Fitzmaurice and Jean Bolger of the Irish music group Colcannon will play a special concert today at the Denver Central Library. So What! at Beauty Bar (Saturday, $5) No weekend is complete without a killer dance party, so head to Beauty Bar for So What!, the monthly night of soul, neo-soul, acid jazz and hip hop. The night has been running (in different locations) since 1993, so the organizers are obviously doing something right.
Denver Divas Reception at Megafauna (Saturday, free) For this unique display at Megafauna, artists chose pop icons and matched them with Denver landmarks. From Britney Spears meets Lakeside to Rihanna at Five Points, this show should be a fascinating display of pop art. Gigi's Cafe will provide the snacks at the opening reception today.Arguments & Grievances: Comedy Debates at Vine Street Pub (Sunday, free) In the first Arguments & Grievances of the new year, the comedy debate series will address such pressing matters as Mummies vs. Mommies, Duck Dynasty vs. Duck Tales and Ikea vs. Craig's List. Participating comedians include Sam Tallent, Hippie Man and Mara Wiles, who'll be arguing their positions with hilarious fervor.
WoWps Last Chance Slam at the Mercury Cafe (Sunday, free) Denver is renowned as a strong town for slam poets, and some of the best female slam poets will be performing tonight at the Merc, as competitors are selected for the Women of the World Poetry Slam in March.
