10 Things to Do for $10 in Denver This Weekend (8 Free!), October 2-4

Denver is growing out of control, but the city's diversity keeps it a great place to live. This weekend you can see art in a bathroom, learn Swahili and explore train travel for a relatively little cost. You can also check out the Westword calendar for more to do beyond this list of the ten best events under $10...most of them free!

Grand Expand at BookBar (6 p.m. Friday, free)
Pop bottles at BookBar tonight, because it's christening its brand-new patio, study room and children's section of the wine bar for book lovers. Enjoy bubbles, tasty treats, late-night trivia and all kinds of other fun things. Rumor has it the BookBar is opening a bed-and-breakfast upstairs in the near future, so hopefully we'll be able to celebrate that soon as well.  

The Taste of the Name at 1465 Jasmine Street (8 p.m. Friday, free)
Thanks to the lack of practical art space for the installation medium, this film installation will take place in the artist's own bathroom. The Taste of the Name is a solo exhibition by Toronto-based Serena Lee, and will also feature an essay reading by Leila Armstrong. 

EnduroCross at National Western Complex (9 a.m. Saturday, free)
EnduroCross is a pretty wild event, in which people ride motorcycles on an indoor course filled with rocks, logs, mud pits and jumps. The actual competition is a little over our $10 cap, but you can bring the family down and watch practice all day before the race for free. There are sure to be some spills and other exciting things to see — and you can maybe even grab some autographs. 

Amtrak Train Days at Union Station (10 a.m. Saturday, free)
Riding across this nation in a giant silver bullet, grinding the rails, is exactly what you'll want to do after checking out Train Days. Hop aboard the exhibit train to learn all about the past and future of Amtrak travel. There's activities for the kids and a a couple nice spots in Union Station where you can get a good Bloody Mary while the kids are occupied.

World Wide Festival at Garner Galleria Theatre (10 a.m. Sunday, free)
Denver has twelve sister cities that are coming to town to share their culture. Stop by the Galleria to find out how to make Japanese origami, get Indian henna tattoos, cook French crepes, listen to Italian opera, hear Ethiopian fables, learn to count in Swahili and so much more. It's basically a free trip around the world!

Titwrench Fest at Dryer Plug Studios (10:30 a.m. Saturday, $10)
Titwrench has been pushing the boundaries of music, art and performance in this town since 2009, with extra focus on highlighting women and the LGBT communities. Stretch your day off with live music and yoga; swap clothes with tacos in hand, check out a small market of DIY goods and enjoy live music until 2 a.m. It's going to be a huge celebration of creating. 

Stompin' Ground Games at Ruby Hill Park (3 p.m. Saturday, free/donations)
We all have our favorite neighborhoods, but the Warm Cookies of the Revolution folks will give us a chance to explore a bunch of communities over the next year. Let's kick off the exploration at Ruby Hill Park; from starting as a trash dump to becoming the official diamond of the DKBC and birthplace of your humble author, this neighborhood has a rich history. Come listen to music and poetry, hear stories from residents, and make new friends. It's time to let this hill shine. 
Mile High Soul Club at Syntax Physic Opera (9 p.m. Saturday, free)
Let loose to the sweet sounds of soul tonight. Soul Daddies Tyler Jacobson and Steve Cervantes always play the hits, but guest DJ Jason Heller should really turn the soul up a notch for one of the city's best dance parties. 

White Mirror Public Art Memorial Dance Performance at Babi Yar Park (6:30 p.m. Sunday, free)
Be a part of Denver history as the city commissions its first ever dance as public art performance. Planned specifically for Babi Yar Park, White Mirror will be performed by Lemon Sponge Cake dancers and collaborator Sharon Wehner, principal dancer with the Colorado Ballet. Bring a blanket and a picnic and watch the performance in memory of the thousands of Jews, Gypsies, Ukrainians and others who lost their lives in the Ukrainian Babi Yar ravine during World War 2. 

Boulder Comedy Show at Bohemian Biergarten (7 p.m. Sunday, $5)
Never end the weekend without a good laugh. This week we get a double dose of funny with Infauxmation and Uncalled Four. A fake news program and a game that separates normal people from absolute creeps takes center stage tonight for a great way to wrap up your weekend.
