The last week or so not withstanding, given the challenges the Front Range resorts have had with snowfall this season, it seems appropriate that Arapahoe Basin is promoting environmental consciousness. This Saturday, the Basin will host its second Save Our Snow celebration, a fundraiser for the High Country Conservation Center that is co-sponsored by cool companies like Clif Bar and New Belgium.

At Save Our Snow, the purchase of a $50 "Snow Huggers" membership gets you a lift ticket for the day and a bunch of discounts, including 50 percent off an adult midweek lift ticket, 50 percent off one half-day ski or snowboard lesson, 50 percent off a full-day rental package, 20 percent off an Arapahoe Sports purchase, which will get bagged up in a reusable tote bag you can use for grocery shopping, and 15 percent off food and drink in both The Legends Cafeteria and Black Mountain Lodge.

Other events include a scavenger hunt for Smokey the Bear, with the first 50 kids who find Smokey getting a schwag bag. There will also be some educational stuff, including a composting lesson and a tour of Montezuma Bowl and its green-styled expansion led by A Basin GM Alan Henceroth. Both Clif Bar and New Belgium will have booths with info on their green initiatives.

At 3:30, there will be a raffle. Raffle tickets cost $3 for one and $5 for two. Sweet prizes are being given out to raffle winners, including a 2010-2011 Basin season pass, Mountain Dew skis, a Burton Helmet, Marmot stuff, water bottles, restaurant gift cards, movie tickets, rec. center passes, and concert tickets.
