Colorado's got its green on good, and the success of Denver B-cycle offers major proof that metro area pedal-pushers welcome the opportunity to get out of their cars and onto the city streets. The city's member-supported bike sharing program, now in its second year, will appropriately celebrate a solid year of providing rides tomorrow on Earth Day by throwing a major sustainable shindig in cahoots with MCA Denver. "We wanted to thank the public for all their support, so we thought we'd try to throw a party," B-cycle spokesman Brent Tongko notes. "MCA Denver welcomed us with open arms to host the anniversary." And it will be one of the most ecologically correct parties ever: Participants will be treated to New Belgium brews, B-cycle goldsprints, a photo booth, a battalion of food trucks, on-site recycling, spins by DJ team Double//Shadow and live music by Patrick Dethlefs. A carbon calculator will even be employed to estimate the party's carbon footprint, so the promoters can offset it with a donation to the Colorado Carbon Fund.

Plus, it's (practically) free: "Anyone with a B-cycle or MCA annual membership gets in free, but for nonmembers, admission is one cent, so it's a cheap, fun thing to do," Tongco says. "It'll also be the last day to sign up for B-cycle at the special rate; it's usually $65, but the discounted rate is $49. And, if you are already a member and bring a friend sign up, we'll be giving away Chipotle burrito bucks to the first fifty members to do so."

The Denver B-cycle Anniversary Party is from 7 to 10 p.m. at MCA, 1485 Delgany Street; reservations are required, due to space restrictions. Visit the Eventbrite page to sign up, and keep in mind that check-in will be paperless as a favor to the earth. For more about B-cycle, visit the website.
