Boulder's 3rd Law is renowned for its full-length theatrical dance productions. So what made the troupe veer in the other direction — that is, a patchwork of shorter, unrelated performances, including excerpts from old and upcoming shows — for its new In Pieces? According to artistic co-director Jim LaVita, it's all about keeping the troupe and its fans on their toes. "[Co-director] Katie Elliott and I want to keep our audience intrigued by presenting something a bit away from our signature evenings," he explains. "We also wanted to explore some new ideas for future concerts. We are continually creating new projects, and this seemed like an opportune moment to explore."

In Pieces premieres tonight at 7:30 at the Dairy Center for the Arts, 2590 Walnut Street in Boulder. Additional performances take place Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 4 p.m. Admission is $22, $17 for seniors and students. For tickets and information, call 303-444-7328 or visit www.thedairy.org.
April 9-10, 7:30 p.m.; Sun., April 11, 4 p.m., 2010
