“We aim to give participants — whether they are first-time runners, seasoned pros spectators or zombie fanatics — the best and most unique experience they’ve ever had,” says Derrick Smith, the run’s co-creator. Racers will make their way through obstacles both natural and manmade while being pursued by the hungry dead. But don’t worry, your brains are relatively safe. Flag belts represent your health here: Finish with at least one flag and you’ve survived this zombie apocalypse. Lose all your flags and you’re dead (undead, actually).
Afterward, an Apocalypse Party with local bands, vendors, food and beer will help you celebrate making it out, dead or alive. (Zombies need to party, too.) Registration for the race has closed, but you can still watch the race and party with survivors for $32 presale or $40 at the race. The fun starts at 9 a.m. today at Thunder Valley Motocross at 701 South Rooney Road in Lakewood; for more information, visit runforyourlives.com.
