On September 14, the University of Colorado Denver is holding its first annual LYNXAPALOOZA, an all-day music festival sponsored by CU Denver Live!, the school's arts programming committee. The festival will feature nationally acclaimed acts Blind Pilot, DR. Dog and The Antlers. Local indie and folk bands Shady Elders, Eldren, The Yawpers and The Congress will also also perform sets. "We started by looking at what CU Denver does well, and what we were lacking," says CU Denver Live! student chair Lizzy Hearne, "Being a commuter campus, it can be very difficult to keep students involved in school events. By putting on a music festival like this, we are hoping to generate school spirit and keep students engaged."
LYNXAPALOOZA is sponsored by CU Denver Live!, 93.7 KBCO, Student Government Association and the Music Industry Student Association. "We are planning for Lynxapalooza to become a yearly tradition that showcases talented artists from a variety of genres," says Hearne. "This year we focused on indie-rock and folk, but in the future we may bring in hip-hop or pop artists."
Doors for LYNXAPALOOZA open at noon Saturday; there will be carnival events and food trucks on site, and the music starts at 1 p.m. and runs until 10 p.m. Tickets with a valid student ID are $10 and $20.50 for general admission; kids under five get in free. (Purchase tickets here.
"CU Denver Live! is so excited that we get to be a part of the first Lynxapalooza and do something that has never been done on our campus," says Hearne.
