With more than ninety beers on tap from 35-plus breweries, tonight’s fourth annual Summer Brew Fest at Mile High Station is a powerful reminder of how many different kinds of beers there are to choose from, both in Colorado and in other states. And while the event is good practice for the Great American Beer Festival, which takes place in September, it has a different feel to it. “The atmosphere is a little more intimate. The lines are shorter and you can talk to people from the breweries,” says spokeswoman Carolyn Pitcavage.

The brewers — including a couple of new ones, like Denver’s Strange Brewing, and New Planet and Asher, both in Boulder — will bring some of their seasonal summer beers, as well as their classics. Tickets to the main event come with a souvenir glass and cost $30, but there are also VIP tickets, for $40, that give people access to an extra hour of drinking and a cheese pairing sponsored by Haystack Mountain Goat Cheese.

The fest runs from 7 to 10 p.m. (VIP action starts at 6) at Mile High Station, 2027 West Lower Colfax Avenue, near Invesco Field. There will be music from Chadzilla and the Asteroids; some proceeds benefit the Swallow Hill Music Association. For more information, log on to www.denverbrewfest.com.
