El Grito 5K Run and Walk 9 a.m. September 14, Buckhorn Exchange
Weather permitting, this affordable 5K urban run starts and ends at the Buckhorn Exchange in the heart of the Barrio, where finishers will be treated to hot burritos, beer and Latino tunes. And the traditional run has a purpose other than just being fun: Funds raised will benefit a scholarship fund for graduating high school seniors participating in cross-country/track programs. Fiesta Patrias 2 to 5 p.m. September 14, Kim Robards Dance
Mexico's "Cry of Independence" will be heard loud and clear at Kim Robards Dance, recently relocated to downtown Aurora, where Fiestas Patrias will offer a free afternoon of Mexican dance, live music and work by artists Jairo Heli and Edwin Bandala. Latino Americans 7 to 9 p.m. September 17, Rocky Mountain PBS
Rain got you down? Don't much feel like dancing in the soggy streets? The new six-hour PBS documentary series Latino Americans premieres on September 17 and continues in two-hour swatches on consecutive Tuesdays, through October 1. This comprehensive history is narrated by actor Benjamin Bratt and includes interviews with nearly 100 Latinos in politics, business and the arts. Expect quality viewing and new perspectives on America's fastest-growing ethnic group. Tune in to Rocky Mountain PBS, Channel 6 in Denver.
