Coming together to sing is the primary purpose of this gathering, but the Festival of Lights also features dancing, candle-making and sharing traditional foods. Those include "miracle of the oil" celebrational snacks, as well as latkes and sufganiyots -- Israeli-style jelly doughnuts that Kozak Ward promises are "as good as you would get in Israel," served up hot and fresh.
Kozak Ward says that one of the reasons the standing-room-only night has become so popular is because it's a way for interfaith families to give thanks during the season. While everyone is again encouraged to bring menorahs and candles for lighting during a special ceremony, for the first time, the Festival of Lights will also include a candle-making station in the ticket price.
The Colorado Hebrew Chorale's Festival of Lights starts at 5:30 p.m. tonight at the Four Mile Historic Park. Tickets are $5 to $10, and can be purchased at the door, but reservations are recommended; e-mail [email protected] or call 720-865-0800. For more information, visit the Colorado Hebrew Chorale's website.
