Tonight's flick is the '60s trials-of-an-inner-city-high-school-teacher classic, Up the Down Staircase, starring Sandy Dennis as a harried young educator learning the ropes in the hardest way possible; bring your yarn bag to the Fresh City Lounge in the Denver Central Library, 10 W. 14th Avenue Parkway at 5:30 p.m. Admission is free, and the ambiance is casual.
Another revival, this one plucked from the midst of the women's movement of the '70s, is wrapping up its Tuesday-night run at the 73rd Ave. Playhouse, 7287 Lowell Boulevard in Westminster, next week. Tonight and August 17 at 7:30 p.m. are the last two dates to see Women Alone and Their Stories, a series of four monologues by Dario Fo and Franca Rame. If it seems dated, consider the show an avant-garde primer on how things used to be; Fo, a 1997 Nobel Laureate in literature, and Rame, his leading actress, wife and collaborative partner over more than 40 years, meld black comedy and a fierce feminist outlook in the dramatic quartet.
