"It's an event where the natural hair care community here in Denver can come to and learn more about how to maintain their natural hair in this dry climate," says High. "But it's also about connecting people with resources that include nutrition, mind, body and soul, make-up and all sorts of things."
There will be an on-site market hosting such local vendors as Mixed Chicks, Naturally Defined Fitness, Nutrition and Wellness Services and Up Gym Functional Training Center, as well as salons like More Than Curly Salon and Locxurious Hair Salon talking about what they do. Throughout the day, there will be workshops on whole body nutrition, natural hair care and spirituality, and expert panels on race and natural hair in the workplace, with a discussion led by bloggers and stylists from the world of natural hair care.
High says she and her team curated the expo to meet its mission of connecting the natural hair community as well as bringing more information to those transitioning out of synthetics and chemical-based hair treatments by offering a full range of local services and whole body education. There's something for everyone, with interactive components like Zumba and yoga sessions presented as part of the day's festivities, along with healthy cooking demonstrations and financial workshops.
"There is an untapped community of people looking for natural products, information and support in maintaining natural hair," says High. "There's also a sub-community of sorts -- we have a large immigrant population and adoptee population as well, and many parents don't know how to maintain mixed race natural hair. We just want to open up that community more and provide the platform and opportunity for people to network and learn from each other -- while having fun and celebrating who they are, naturally."
The expo will also feature a hair show, prize giveaways, live entertainment and a special appearance by Natural Hair Care Expo founder and renowned hair stylist Malaika Tamu Cooper.
