John Rodwan’s Fighters & Writers explores the relationship between the two in a somewhat unusual way ― by combining personal essays with literary analysis. “Some see boxing as free of artifice; others see it as full of it,” says Rodwan, who will read from his book and sign copies tonight at the Bookery Nook. “Writers from both camps recognize something of themselves in fighters, and this has been the case at least since Homer told tales.”

This is the author’s second time in Colorado in support of the book, and he plans to read an essay on Joe Louis’s first fight with Max Schmeling to commemorate the bout’s 75th anniversary. Rodwan says Colorado has been a very welcoming place; he’s going from the reading in Denver to Durango, where a movie he wrote is screening at the Durango Independent Film Festival.

The reading starts tonight at 6 p.m., and admission is free; the Bookery Nook is at 4280 Tennyson Street. More information can be found at www.thebookerynook.com.
