Hacking rises to an art in the most literal of ways in Tim Schwartz’s brave new digital world of eScapes — gray-scale ePaper text screens manipulated to capture imagery from nature — that challenges the persistence of representation in art through the newest of mediums. An artist with a science background, the L.A.-based Schwartz also does work beyond the creative realm, including the development of technologies that help families reunite after disasters.
From Combat to Canvas
Blair-Caldwell African American Research Library

Opening reception: 1-4 p.m. Saturday, March 12
War may be hell, but so is its aftermath. To show how it affects the men and women on the front lines, Blair-Caldwell library curator Helen Littlejohn pulled together a collection of art and photography investigating the veteran experience for From Combat to Canvas, which serves as an outlet for a diverse group of local veterans who are also artists.
Duality: New Works by Andrew Hoffman
Super Ordinary Gallery

Opening reception: 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, March 12
The design-based imagery of Andrew Hoffman delves into modern symbology for Duality, a show that contains opposing forces of the mystical and the modern in clean, poster-ready compositions. Added bonus: The gallery is inside the Source in RiNo, so you can enjoy the art and browse the boutique at Super Ordinary, but also get dinner and a drink — all under one roof.
