If greeting-card companies brought this suffering upon us, then Art Salon is offering a fitting antidote tonight, when the salon hosts Scorned Lover Valentine Card Making, when you can create a message thats a little less cutesy than the general fare. Its a sugary-sweet holiday, notes Jennifer Mosquera, painter, Art Salon owner and the woman who will be running the workshop. I wanted to add a little salt to it. Shell provide the space and supplies things like card stock, glitter glue, markers, pens and rubber stamps with such slogans as Eat Shit And Die and you just provide your own bitter disenchantment.
If youre looking for something a little more potent, tomorrow Mosquera will host You Do Voodoo, at which scorned lovers can make voodoo dolls and use them to cast hexes, just in case the cards dont work. The card workshop is $15 (which includes materials for two cards), and the voodoo session is $25 (that price includes voodoo doll kits that Mosquera makes herself); both are at Art Salon, 2219 East 21st Avenue, from 6 to 8 p.m. The workshops repeat on February 8 (cards) and 9 (dolls).
