Literary Calendar: Three Book Events in Denver November 2-8

This week you can shake the hand of a Clinton, sharpen you own writing chops with colleagues at the library, or bring your pooch to the Tattered Cover for a dog-friendly, outdoor book signing. There’s something here for everyone — read all about it.

First daughter Chelsea Clinton helps her high-profile parents, Bill and Hillary Clinton, run a foundation dedicated to empowering women and girls in particular. She’s also a new mother, as good a motivator as any for planting a seed of confidence in the hearts of young people. That’s what she does in It’s Your World, which not only explains global issues, from climate change to poverty and homelessness, but also gives clues on how kids can take action, while highlighting stories of children and teens who have done things to make a difference in the world. Clinton will be in the house at the Tattered Cover Colfax to sign copies of the book on November 4; get a free ticket for the signing line by purchasing It’s Your World, $18.99 from Philomel Books, in advance at any Tattered Cover location (airport stores excluded).
NaNoWriMo: Drop-In: Write-In

Write on: National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), the national challenge to aspiring writers to write 50,000 words during the month of November, officially began Sunday. Operating under the theory that it takes a village to grow a novel, the Denver Public Library’s Fresh City Life program is offering a six-hour drop-in day for local contenders looking for camaraderie in their quests. Aspiring writers are invited to come hang out, write and pat each other on the back for moral support in the first week of the challenge. Elias Weiss Friedman, The Dogist: Photographic Encounters with 1,000 Dogs

In the world of Elias Weiss Friedman, aka the Dogist, pups never take a back to seat to cats in terms of popularity. He’s made photographing dogs and posting them on his Instagram feed @TheDogist his life’s work. Now there’s a book, too, which studies the cult of the dog from every adorable, magnificent, trustworthy angle, and the Tattered Cover Colfax invites local dog-lovers and their socialized, leashed pets to celebrate the tome with Friedman on the Lowenstein complex plaza, weather permitting. It’s recommended that dog owners call ahead if the weather isn’t good — and leave Fido at home if the event has to move indoors. Arfing good time!
