Goldyn Named Best High-Style Boutique in Westword's Best of Denver 2012, Goldyn never fails to deliver, showing and selling pieces from internationally renowned labels large and small. Owner Vanessa Barcus has a keen eye for unique pieces, and uses her high-profile couture connections to feature special trunk shows and in-store stops by up-and-coming and established designers. Common Era Another Westword Best of winner, Common Era's story begins way in 1991, when owner Debra Mazur opened her first store on the Pearl Street Mall in Boulder, selling hand-picked vintage apparel. Now, more than two decades later, Mazur's two locations -- there's one in Denver, too -- are a fusion of retro and current trends, giving local shoppers the best of both worlds. Brandi Shigley/B. Shigley Designs A local couture guru, musician and small business owner who was part of the first class of Westword MasterMinds in 2005, Brandi Shigley recently reactivated her handbag design business -- which will be showing at Whiteout. But she is known not only for her fashion sense; her latest endeavor, "Do What You Love. Love What You Do," has Shigley teaching others how to turn their passion into reality. Read more about Shigley on our 100 Colorado Creatives list. D'Lola Couture A bridal boutique like no other, D'Lola Couture offers everything from traditional princess-style bridal wear to the latest in mermaid cuts and bountiful tulle bottoms. When it comes to the runway, designer DeeDee Vicory lets loose: her designs veer off from whites and creams to reveal the full color spectrum in fabric trains that seem endless. Mona Lucero For two decades, Mona Lucero has been making her mark on the Denver fashion scene with innovative design and a constant stream of new work. A former independent shop owner -- her store closed in late 2012 after a ten-year run -- the Westword MasterMind puts just as much effort into upping the exposure of the designers who work alongside her as she does her own runway pieces. Read more from Lucero on our 100 Colorado Creatives list. Akomplice With a blend of couture and hand-selected culture, Akomplice has a self-described "evolution through innovation" aesthetic. The menswear company sells its line throughout the U.S. and online, but has brick-and-mortar stores in Colorado and California. True Love True Love Shoes and Accessories staked its claim on South Broadway long before the area became one of Denver's sought-after fashion districts. Packed but far from claustrophobic, the airy store has an enviable selection of styles -- from ankle boots to kitten heels, ballet flats and beyond. But True Love's best-kept secret? Its price point. With shoes and boots running from $24 to $58 and sale pairs under $20, there's no need to shop around. Equillibrium Deb Henriksen founded her clothing company, Equillibrium, more than a dozen years ago and from the start, she's focused on creating wearable, sustainable pieces. Her background in environmental consulting combined with a love for snow and skate activities drives her operations with a distinct force that made her a 2007 Westword MasterMind.
