Yeti. Bigfoot. Abominable Snowman. These are actually not interchangeable terms — yetis, for example, are specific to the Himalayas, while Bigfoot is an American beast — but clearly, humans have a fascination with all of the giant man-beasts that dwell in mountains. Hence, the American Mountaineering Museum’s annual Yeti Night.

“We do our Thirsty Thursday happy hour, and we wanted to do something around Halloween time to be a special Thirsty Thursday,” says museum director Shelby Arnold. “And the yeti is a mythical character of the mountains, which goes along with the holiday.” Basically, it’s a social hour with a bunch of yeti-related goodies and gear: Great Divide will provide some Yeti Imperial Stout for attendees to sip on, and there will be giveaways from Yeti Cycles, a yeti costume contest, access to the museum’s temporary photography exhibit, and raffle drawings with First Descent.

Yeti Night runs from 6 to 9 p.m. and is free and open to both kids and adults; the American Mountaineering Museum is at 710 10th Street in Golden. Call 303-996-2755 or visit www.mountaineeringmuseum.org for more information.
