"The Great Debate is a new part of our Third Tuesday lineup," explains Buntports Evan Weissman. "There will be two teams of four people, and they're going to debate the inconsequential. Each person gets five minutes to present, and there is a moderator and a rebuttal round. Presenters can bring video, PowerPoint presentations, visual aids. These are very, very important topics to be discussed and debated, so theyd better bring everything to the table."
Future topics to be debated this year include Deadman's Curve or Makeout Point, Boston or Chicago (band or city) and Bacon or Kevin Bacon. Inspiration came from the great Latke-Hamantasch debates put on by the Center for Judaic Studies at the University of Chicago, and Buntport will team up with the center for a special Denver staging of a latke debate on February 28.
The debate begins at 8 p.m. and doors open a half hour earlier at Buntport, 717 Lipan Street. Admission is $5 to $7, depending on your luck, and reservations can be made online at www.buntport.com or by calling 720-946-1388.
