"This party has been a tradition in one form or another for almost twenty years," notes Heebonism co-founder Eric Elkins. "It's Christmas Eve, we're lonely -- so we gather together. And it's not just for singles. It's not just for people who are already heavily engaged in being part of the Jewish community. It's not just for the young set. We have singles, couples or people who want a date night -- even people who aren't usually interested in doing Jewish stuff will come to this party." And this year, the soiree is moving to a larger space -- City Hall -- since Elkins is expecting well over 500 people to come out for dancing to DJs (including DMC world champion DJ Vajra), drinking, gaming (vintage video games and Skee-Ball by 1Up!), photo-booth fun, light sculptures by Lumonics and, since Christmas Eve falls in the middle of Hanukkah, a menorah lighting.
Heebonism revs up at 8:30 p.m. and continues until 2 a.m. at City Hall, 1144 Broadway. Come early for quiet drinks or arrive later if you're looking for more rowdiness; free Ceren vodka cocktails will be served until 9:30 with the admission price of $18 in advance or $25 at the door ($20 if you also bring three non-perishable food items to donate).
