Well before it was a Disney cartoon, the story of a beautiful princess cursed by an evil witch to sleep for a hundred years, then awakened by the kiss of a handsome prince, was told through dance: The Sleeping Beauty was first performed as a ballet in 1890. And dancers have been charming audiences ever since.

On Thursday, October 4, the Colorado Ballet performed a sneak peak dress rehearsal of their own, grand version of The Sleeping Beauty at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House.

Westword's Elyse Mitchell stopped by to take the photos you can find in this slide show.

The performance officially opens at 7:30 p.m. tonight, October 5 and runs through October 21, in the Ellie Caulkins Opera House; tickets are $28 to $154. For more information, visit www.coloradoballet.org or call 303-837-8888.
