Explore the sounds of Eastern Europe filtered through a contemporary lens tonight when the Swallow Hill Music Association brings the sounds of Luminescent Orchestrii, Los Lantzmun and Fishtank Ensemble to Denver. These groups represent three distinctive, vibrant takes on traditional folk music of the Balkans and beyond — traditional Gypsy melodies, flamenco, Middle Eastern sounds and more combined into energetic world-fusion blends. “All three bands fuse a variety of styles — a lot of Eastern European sounds and influences,” says Swallow Hill’s Laura McCaughey. “It’s really quite a bang for your buck.”

Visit www.swallowhillmusic.org to get more info on the bands, including links to hear samples of their music. Then catch the performance at 7 p.m. at 71 East Yale Avenue. Tickets are $18 in advance or $21 at the door, with discounts for Swallow Hill members; get yours online or 303-777-1003, ext. 2.
Fri., July 25, 7 p.m., 2008
