And now its all on film. Director Kevin Kerslake, whos put together dozens of music videos and live performances, has outdone himself with the feature-length Electric Daisy Carnival Experience movie. Its different from anything Ive done before in terms of scale, because there are so many artists throughout several genres, he says. This was interesting, to create this tapestry where different gen-res sit with others. I think the fabric of the film just had a little more texture than some of the others.
Kerslake is being modest. Daisy features more than twenty top artists (Benny Benassi, Swedish House Mafia and Moby among them) performing live and offering up interviews and each and every artist gave the film the thumbs-up before it was released. The mood is pretty buoyant, Kerslake says. It really is just about keeping your foot on the gas, for the most part, and making sure that theres a gentle spirit that courses through the whole film.
But until the DVD comes out on November 9, your only chance to see it on the big screen is tonight at 9 p.m.. at the Mayan Theatre, 110 Broadway; purchase tickets and get more information at www.landmarktheatres.com.
