Were the only double-metric century race in this area, and its 200K the hard way, says SPAN events planner Angie Jeffords. The cycling route will take riders out of Boulder and along the Peak to Peak Highway to Estes Park, then back to Boulder through St. Vrain Canyon and Lyons, with an overall vertical climb of 9,000 feet. We have three routes to choose from, so if you havent been training properly, there are options to fit all different levels, she adds. Either way, its a chance to do a beautiful ride, with everything taken care of for you along the way. Even the lesser-distance route is still quite a trip.
All three routes start and finish at Elevations Credit Union, 2300 55th Street in Boulder. The 200K tribe starts at 6 a.m., followed by the 130K crew at 7 a.m. and the 75K group (long ride sans brutal climbing) at 8 a.m. Registration is $95 before August 13 at www.active.com and $115 through today, and includes a tax-deductible contribution to SPANs $3 million capital campaign.
