Denver's Sexy Pizza is considering going where no local pizza chain has gone before: into the comedy-club business. And it may not be all that much of a stretch, since people tend to like things that are both sexy and funny. After all, where there is deli luncheon meat, there is no limit on the in-house, joke-making possibilities. But they have more on the plate for this new restaurant: They'd like to add comedy to the lineup.

"Sexy Pizza has gotten very involved in the local Denver comedy scene, and we see that as the next 'new big thing' in Denver and we're going to try and capitalize on it," Khalatbari explains. "We've been having some after-hours comedy shows at Sexy Pizza South Pearl over the past few months, and they've been going over very well. We also will plan on being open till 2 a.m. and acting more as a bar atmosphere as well."

Ideally, the comedy shows would be inside the new restaurant -- but since they plan to give their third pizza joint "a deli aspect to it as well," they might have trouble finding a single spot big enough to make it all fit. "If we can't find a space large enough to house all of this, we will look for a separate venue for this," Khalatbari says. "Regardless, we'd like to make it available to the amazing community of comics in Denver to use as they wish at no charge for the myriad of shows they produce around town.

"We really believe that the comedy scene here in Denver is on the cusp of becoming something very big," he continues, "and we want to keep that momentum rolling for them, especially knowing them personally and what phenomenal and quality people they are. They've earned it."

Khalatbari and Sexy Pizza have already earned customer-appreciation equity for their pies -- especially the popular Sexy Sheikh, with fresh jalapenos, pepperoni, cream cheese and mozzarella. Adding comics to this menu could soon have customers rolling in the aisle -- and Sexy Pizza rolling in dough.

Watch for the third Sexy Pizza location to open in Highland by summer 2013.
