With class schedules already being decided and summer break inching closer its end, Southwest Plaza is gearing up for the back to school shopping season.

This Saturday, August 3, the mall will be hosting Jeans & Teens, an afternoon of fashion shows, make-up tips and giveaways. Along with the clothing event and usual seasonal sales, the mall will also be collecting gently used jeans for the Jefferson Foundation.

"The back to school shopping season seems to start earlier and earlier each year," says Southwest Plaza spokeswoman Stephanie Jackson. "We just want to celebrate it and highlight our great fashion stores, as well as stores geared specifically toward teens."

Jackson says the mall wanted to not only showcase its own retailers, but provide an interactive place for middle school, high school and college age students to get some insight into the trends. With two fashion shows running in the afternoon, stores like Forever 21, Charlotte Ruse, Dillard's, American Eagle and more will sharing looks on the runway.

In addition to the clothing showcase, the MAC counter at Macy's will be doing make-up demonstrations and shoppers can enter to win a $200 jeans giveaway from Buckle and Macy's.

Plus, the mall wanted to work with an organization within the community that might also benefit from this back to school time. "Jeans seem like such a staple -- whether kids are growing or they've just worn them out, we wanted to collect jeans to give back to the kids who need them," says Jackson.

The fashion event and denim drive are on the lower level of Southwest Plaza, center court near Macy's. Fashion shows will take place at noon and 2 p.m. Shoppers who donate a pair of jeans for the drive will also receive a free gift, while supplies last.
