“One of the great things about having thirty-plus distilleries in this state is that there’s something for everyone,” says Josh Mishell, co-organizer of the Colorado Distillers Festival. And with a couple dozen of those distilleries representing at the festival, attendees will be able to find spirits to their tastes.

“I know people who say they don’t like gin because they’re used to drinking these dry, London-style gins,” Mishell continues, “but that’s only a very small population of the gin industry. There are distillers making gins with aromatics that have more floral notes, and people will sample one of those and realize they do like gin. The festival gives consumers a chance to try small amounts of everything these distillers produce. You could only drink gin and there will still be about twenty to choose from. So in a relatively short amount of time, you can get a good idea of what you might like and discover new spirits you might enjoy in the future.”

Admission includes unlimited spirits samples (within reason) and a buffet meal provided by the Rackhouse Pub, 208 Kalamath Street, where the fest takes place. Tickets are $40 in advance and $50 at the door, and the festival runs from 1 to 5 p.m.

Mishell also notes that each distillery will create a cocktail for the cocktail contest; after trying them, vote for your favorite, and the best cocktail will land a place on the Rackhouse Pub’s menu. Visit coloradodistillersfestival.com for details.
