The Colorado Burlesque Festival returns to Denver today for a third annual twirl of the tassels. Shotgun Willies? Think again. This event isn't about scantily dressed ladies. The art of burlesque will be showcased with performances by some of the top women in the field: over 75 performers who have turned this art form into something special, polished and professional.

Producer Lola Spitfire says the festival "is a gathering spot for a wild assortment of performers who are ready to entertain and amaze Colorado audiences."

The festival includes a wide array of workshops and classes open to the general public, including "Headdresses 101: An introduction to crafting stylish pieces for any occasion," "Stage Managing Burlesque" (ever want to learn how these shows actually "work" under the bright lights?) and "Owning Your Act Through the Power of Intention."

For a full list of the classes, go to www.coloradoburlesquefestival.com/events/classes-2012 . And stop by the Sheraton hotel downtown for a meet-and-greet event following performer check-in from 3 to 5:30 p.m. today in 16 Mix, where there will be drink and appetizer specials.

Later today, don't miss the opening gala at the Summit Music Hall, 1902 Blake Street, hosted by Denver's very own Cora Vette with musical guest Vibes on Velvet.
