Ten Things to Do for $10 in Denver (Six Free!), April 8-10

Although all eyes will be on Coors Field tomorrow, there will be plenty of other events around town all weekend: vintage films, game shows, musical events. Here are our ten favorite things to do for ten bucks or less; fine more events on the Westword calendar.

Downtown's going to be buzzing with the boys of summer starting up their season, so get down to the Denver Beer Co. early to secure your spot. If you've tried the craft brewer's Graham Cracker Porter, you know it can only get better with a little cocoa cream. Be one of the first 100 people to grab a growler, then hit the patio to toast a s'more. 

Old Denver vs. New Denver Family Feud

Denver feels like the first week of college these days: No one is from here, it seems. But that's wrong: There are actually some people who were born and bred in Denver, and you'll meet them at this MCA game show, designed for natives and newbies alike. Try some trivia, slurp a drink, make friends old and new, and check out the museum during any lulls in the action.

Head to East Colfax Avenue for some cold beer and cool tunes. At Goosetown, DJ Bossman Vargas and Miggy will spin the smoothest of the soul, the skankist of ska, the twang of surf and other genres that go well with suds and pie.

You know summer's coming when markets start popping up. Head to The Source this weekend for artisan goods from Craft Boner, Simply Guapa, Mercury Mercury Design Lab and more. You can grab something for yourself or be a pal and buy a gift for someone else — in which case you should at least treat yourself to a drink at one of the Source's bars.

You're in for a real treat when Laura Stevenson walks through the doors at Ratio to join the Mostly Harmless Podcast. Sip beer while getting to know Stevenson, who'll even treat the crowd to a taste of her music. If you like what you hear, you can catch her later at the hi-dive, along with Crying and Chris Farren.

Take a trip back in time with vintage PSA films — the kind of films teachers used to show kids to scare them away from drugs and keep them on the straight and narrow. A Mutiny Talk with Cynthia Connolly

This is acan't-miss event for punk rockers and people into cool history. Nearly thirty years ago, Cynthia Connolly published the photo book Banned in DC, which is now on its eighth edition. Celebrate its success at a talk by Connolly; you may even hear some cool stories about Minor Threat.
Thollem Electric's Operation Sunbeam

Thollem Electric might be a musician, or he might be some kind of wizard scientist — that's for you to decide. Check out the modified, tweaked and extreme slew of instruments he's carted across the country for his latest project, Operation Sunbeam; the experience might melt your mind. Matt Smiley and Ryan Seward will also be on hand to pick up the pieces. 
The Church of Coen Presents: Inside Llewyn Davis

Feels like it's been a while since we were able to worship the Coen brothers, but the church returns tonight with Inside Llewyn Davis, the story of a 1960s folk singer who looks to make it big in the music world. Since a good worship service always has hymns, Natalie Tate will provide some music to accompany the evening.
