Ten Things to Do in Denver for $10 or Less (Eight Free), September 23-25

Fall is the perfect time to get outside and enjoy our town. Without blistering sun or frigid cold, it's a pleasure to explore the pumpkin patch, celebrate our parks and eat from a food truck. Here are our ten favorite events this weekend, none of which will set you back more than $10 (and eight are free!). Visit the Westword calendar for even more entertainment opportunities.

Second Annual Jaipur Literature Festival
Boulder Public Library
Friday through Sunday, free
To attend the Jaipur Literature Festival, you used to have to travel to India — but now you just need to head to Boulder. Join over seventy writers from every corner of the globe, including recent Pulitzer Prize winner Viet Thanh Nguyen, for a weekend of conversations about literature and humanity as a whole. Pump Up the Volume Roll
Exdo Event Center
9 p.m. Friday, free to $5
For this month's edition of Roll, you should dig up a pair of JNCOs and a visor,  lace up those skates, and remember the 1990s. You'll be skating to the sounds of those music videos that MTV used to play. There's no cover before 10 p.m., and make sure you fill out a waiver if you haven't been on a Roll before. 

Maize in the City
Opens at 10 a.m. Saturday, $1 to $12
For adults, admission to the actual maze is just outside of our budget — but there's plenty of free fun for the whole family. Take a walk through the pumpkin patch, ride a pony, pet some critters and enjoy a fall wonderland. The event runs through the end of October, so if you can't make it this weekend, pick another time — and take note of the special attractions on the Maize in the City website. 
Renegade Craft Fair Denver
Exdo Event Center
Opening 11 a.m. Saturday, running through Sunday, free
Denver is now on the same platform as Los Angeles, New York and London when it come to the craft-fair scene. Really: Renegade is coming to town, bringing live music, world-class crafts and other treats. Make memories to take home by hopping in the ShutterBus VW Photo Booth Bus and snapping some pics. 
Nacho Libre
Sie FilmCenter
11 a.m. Saturday, free
The Sie FilmCenter is hosting CineLatino this weekend, and some of the films are free. This morning, you can check out the Jack Black classic Nacho Libre and have cash left over for a Bloody Maria. Grab those tickets here. 

Public Lands Palooza
Mestizo-Curtis Park
3 p.m. Saturday, free
This is National Public Lands Day, so get out to the parks and enjoy them — for free. One of Denver's oldest parks, Mestizo-Curtis Park, is hosting a bash with a DJ, local organizations and some healthy snacks. Bring your dancing shoes to participate in the largest BioBlitz flash dance ever. Find more info on that here.

Supernova

We might not have flying cars, but we do have the capability to host digital public art — and that's pretty cool. Supernova is the first outdoor festival of digital animation and art, and it's right at 14th and Curtis streets. Check the website for more details and info on the after-party. 

Back That Truck Up: Food Truck Fundraiser
Black Shirt Brewing 
4 p.m. Saturday, free 
You have to eat, so why not have some fun and contribute to a good cause? In the back lot of Black Shirt, you can get down on local libations, enjoy live music and snack on food from Chibby Wibbitz Sliderz n Bitez, The Mac Shack, The Sugar Storm and more. Proceeds from the day support schools and youth programs in northeast Denver. So let's eat! 
Sexpot Comedy Lucha Libre & Laughs: With Adam Cayton-Holland
The Oriental Theater
7 p.m. Sunday, $10
The weekend is almost over, but it's going out in a big way. Not only do we get two- and three-way wrestling bouts at this LL&L, but we also get a special performance by Denver's own Adam Cayton-Holland. And there will be even more laughs from Kevin O'Brien, Nolawee Firesauce Mengist and Corey Rhoads, too.  
Propaganda! A Comedy Show featuring John Tole
Clocktower Cabaret
8 p.m. Sunday, free
The fun's not over yet! You can still catch metal-head comic John Tole, as well as Christie Buchele, Harris Alterman, Jason Keyes and more. Park for free and laugh your way into the work week.
