All things zombie need not be flesh-eating, blood-crusted horrors of the night. Well, okay, maybe all zombies do need some awful accoutrements in order to appear authentic — but that doesn’t mean zombies can’t be sexy. Need some proof? Then head to Bender’s Tavern, 314 East 13th Avenue, for tonight’s March of the Zombies Fashion Show.

“My inspiration came from our love for horror flicks,” says event organizer Summer Jackson. “We wanted to go all out, and I figured this would be the best way to do it. I’ve also noticed that zombies usually only come out around Halloween and all the activities surrounding that, so I thought March would be a good time to reactivate them.” Five different designers are kitting out at least five models apiece in their zombie-couture apparel; the models are also getting some serious special-effects treatment from makeup artists who will take them from sexy vixens to brain-craving beasts. Old-school zombie classics (such as Dead Alive) will screen as a backdrop to the proceedings; zombie art will line the walls at Bender’s; and there will even be a talented zombie illustrator to turn audience members into the undead.

“His name is Stan Yan,” reveals Jackson, “and he’ll be doing ‘zombiecatures’” — zombiefied caricatures of willing victims, er, participants. Chainsaw Love Affair, SHITWOLF and the Flash Mob will all offer musical accompaniment; tickets for this 21-and-up event are $5 pre-sale and $8 at the door. The fun starts at 8 p.m.; call 303-861-7070 or visit www.benderstavern.com or www.fashionzombies.webs.com.
