Pick of the Week: Ghostbusters Where: Esquire Theatre, 600 Downing Street When: Midnight Friday, September 17, Saturday, September 18 Why?: Do you need any more reason than "because it's Ghostbusters"? Who doesn't love this movie? Bill Murray at the height of his funniness, Sigourney Weaver at the height of her hotness, Slimer, the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man -- any of this ringing a bell? Honestly, it's a bummer it's so late at night, because this would be a great one to take the kids to. And if by some miracle you've never seen it, make it a priority to go -- it's extra-awesome on the big screen. More info/Tickets: LandmarkTheatres.com

Akira Where: Thin Man parking lot, 2015 East 17th Avenue When: Wednesday, September 22 at dusk (9 p.m.-ish) Why?: Akira is arguably the most famous anime film ever made (Hayao Miyazaki's popularity in the West has probably changed this) and it's easy to see why. It's a dense, mind-bending sci-fi epic about troubled kids with immense psychic abilities set in a cyberpunk future Tokyo. It's an absolute must-see for anyone remotely interested in anime. Desperately Seeking Susan Where: Starz FilmCenter, Tivoli building on the Auraria Campus When: 10 p.m. Friday, September 17, and Saturday, September 18 Why?: Desperately Seeking Susan is not only Madonna's finest moment as an actress (okay, it's her only tolerable moment as an actress), it's also a pretty entertaining time capsule of the '80s with its own little cult following. Never seen it? This is the perfect opportunity. More info/tickets: DenverFilm.org
