“It’s not like it was in the ’70s; it’s a full-contact sport, and we have to remain composed on the track,” says Electrocutie team member Lexie White, aka Faye Tall Blonde. White says that the women train several times a week in preparation for both local and national bouts, at the Roller Dolls’ home facility — affectionately known as the Glitter Dome. Tryouts are held three times a year, and women of all ages and athletic abilities are encouraged to show what they’ve got in a competitive but supportive athletic environment.
The skating gets rough, but roller derby bouts are still family-friendly. Tonight’s matches start at 7 p.m. at 1STBANK Center, 11450 Broomfield Lane in Broomfield. Tickets are $17 to $32, and parking is included. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit denverrollerdolls.org.
