"This will be different than most slams, in that everyone will be reading someone else's work, in costume," says Slam Nuba veteran (and tonight's host) Suzi Q. Smith. Tonight's intrepid readers will not only get to perform just about anything they like, as long as it isn't their own -- a favorite work, a parody or even a song lyric -- while aping a favorite artist, but they'll also have a chance to win prizes for both the alias or the performance. Who or what will hit the stage tonight, then? Smith admits it's a crap shoot. "I'm dressing up as the Mad Hatter, and I'll be reciting "Jabberwocky," she says. But beyond that, it's anybody's guess. What will you do?
The doors and slam signup open at 7:30 p.m., followed by an open mic at 8 p.m. and the event proper at 9 p.m.; admission is $2 for participants and $5 for spectators, and as an added incentive, all performers will also get literary goody bags filled with anything from CDs and chapbooks to Halloween candy.
