Hey boaters! Wondering what to do if you don't have the scratch to go where it's warm and the rivers aren't blocks of ice? Need a kayaking fix? Just because it's winter doesn't mean it's time to put away the boats.
Damon Gold has put together a video montage of some of his more outrageous snow kayaking exploits. Supple backs are a must. If you think downhill racing on two boards strapped to your feet is crazy, wait till you see Gold's exploits. I do find it comical the Gold is wearing a PFD in all these videos; is he worried the kayak will suddenly melt the snow and he'll need to float for a bit?
In doing a little research, it seems that somebody in Colorado set the world speed record last year for snow kayaking, achieving a speed of 50 MPH. C'mon, you know you want to break it, right? Just make sure to remove yer brain from yer skullular cavity first, as my friend Tami Knight would say, and bring along plenty of 12 year old Single Malt Scotch for the ride.
