When Peter Yarrow’s appearance at the Tattered Cover was announced a few weeks back, it seemed like it might be just another night of book-reading and -signing — assuming that hanging out with a music legend and bona fide cultural icon like Yarrow is a routine occurrence for you. But with the passing of Mary Travers, Yarrow's Peter, Paul and Mary bandmate, on September 16 after a long battle with leukemia, tonight's event is sure to have a melancholy cloud hanging over it. Fortunately, Yarrow's new book — Day Is Done, a fuzzy-critter picture book written by the singer and illustrated by award-winning artist Melissa Sweet — stands on its own as a comforting, heartwarming children's book that carries the same charm given voice in "Puff, the Magic Dragon."

Travers’s voice may never again rise in harmony with Yarrow’s, but the music they created, and the revolution they helped soundtrack, will always be remembered. Yarrow will appear at the Highlands Ranch Tattered Cover, 9315 Dorchester Street, at 7 p.m., but space is limited; free tickets will be handed out at 6 p.m. to families already in line, so show up early. For information, call 303-470-7050 or visit www.tatteredcover.com.
