The National Western Stock Show kicked off on January 9, a century-old reminder of how the West was fun! While most of the action is up at the NWSS complex in north Denver at the Coliseum, and the Arena, and the Exhibition Hall (with the fabulous Cowboy Bar in the basement, right next to the bull-grooming area), downtown Denver celebrates its cowtown roots today, when the National Western Barbecue starts at 11:30 a.m. in the atrium of the Wells Fargo Building (the Giant Cash Register to you), with a VIP fashion show and Western music open to all, and lunch available for $9 (it benefits the 4-H International youth group). Then at noon, the Stock Show parade full of marching bands, horseback riders and a stream of Texas Longhorn calendar kicks off at Union Station, heading up 17th Street to the barbecue.
Giddyup and get down in downtown Denver. For a complete list of Stock Show activities, which run through January 24, go to www.nationalwestern.com; for info on downtown events, go to www.downtowndenver.com.
