Earlier this month, artist Daniel Nilsson posted an ad on Craigslist inviting one lucky stranger to live with him in a 4' x 8' x 4' box for exactly one week with no food. "It was kind of like a vacation," he recently told Westword concerning his previous experience doing roughly the same thing, but alone. "Some people go to Hawaii. I live in a box."

And while that might not seem like the most tempting proposition, there are a select few who have indeed been vying for the chance. "Basically, my mom is doing all the interviews, because the idea is that I won't know the person until we hop in," Nilsson says. "She's had a good amount of people apply, and some that she's been more into and some that, right off the bat, she's been like, no." Nilsson's mother and a friend plan to make a final selection this week. "I'm just trying to let her choose and let that be an uncontrolled element. It's more exciting that way," says Nilsson.

Different strokes for different folks -- and there will no doubt be some different folks both inside the box and out when Nilsson and his stranger climb in tonight at 8:45 p.m. at EDGE Gallery, 3658 Navajo Street; since Nilsson plugs his box stay as "performance art," a number of other equally different performers will be on hand, including one who plans to juggle glitter and sing show tunes in drag.

The program starts at 6 p.m., and the gallery will be open -- with Nilsson inside the box -- during select hours all week, with a closing celebration and more performances slated for June 15. For more information, visit www.edgeart.org or call 303-477-7173.
Fridays-Sundays; June 11-14, 7-8 p.m. Starts: June 8. Continues through June 15, 2012
