One of the spaces at Camera Obscura has been completely given over to the artists iconic Colorado shots, including his signature Denver nighttime scenes, while the other space highlights views that Ewing captured during trips across the country. The show covers thirty years of his career in nearly sixty shots, says Loretta Young-Gautier, the gallerys associate director. The photos are large-format landscapes done in gelatin silver prints that he prints himself in his own darkroom. Theyre very lyrical, and theyve been beautifully executed, both as compositions and technically.
This evening from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., a reception will be held in Ewings honor at Camera Obscura, 1309 Bannock Street. The retrospective continues through July 31; for more information, call 303-623-4059 or go to www.cameraobscuragallery.com. To learn more about Ewing, go to www.ewingphoto.com.
