Every year, the foothills town of Lyons hosts a Whitewater Festival with races, water rodeos, food, games, beer and more.

To enhance both the festival and the town's reputation as a recreational destination, residents are raising money for construction of a world-class whitewater feature called the "October Hole." The addition is the final component of the Lyons River Project, a series of enhancements to the Saint Vrain River. To that end, everyone is invited — and encouraged — to Spring for the River tonight at Oskar Blues Restaurant and Brewery, 303 Main Street in Lyons.

Admission is a measly $25, $15 of which is a tax-deductible donation that goes to the Lyons River Project. The rest goes toward the evening's enjoyments: a Cajun buffet, bluegrass background noise provided by Whitewater Ramble, a screening of Wet-House (a documentary film about six crazy kayakers) and a silent auction featuring a wide range of items. Not only will whitewater enthusiasts land some great deals on brand-new equipment, but they'll also get the warm, fuzzy feeling that comes from making the ride on one river even gnarlier. Any additional fundage will benefit fish-habitat projects on the river. To order tickets, call Oskar Blues at 303-823-6685.
Mon., March 19, 6-11 p.m.
