In 1954, when Jim Henson created the first Muppet, he probably never dreamed that his wide-mouthed, brightly colored brainchildren would go on to host their own television show for five years (much less have a starring role on another for forty years and counting) -- and the kids who grew up with films like The Muppet Movie, The Great Muppet Caper and The Muppets Take Manhattan probably didn't realize how spoiled they were. In addition, the Muppets pioneered the type of tongue-in-cheek double entendres -- so popular in kids' movies today -- that fly right over the heads of children so the adults can have a little chuckle all their own.

Fans of the Muppets no doubt rejoiced at the news that a new full-length feature film -- with lots of potentially hilarious star cameos by Jack Black, Amy Adams, Zach Galafianakis and many more -- is due out on November 23. Meanwhile, get your Muppet fix at the Esquire Theatre, 590 Downing Street, when it screens The Muppets Take Manhattan tonight and tomorrow at midnight. With appearances by Brooke Shields, Art Carney, Joan Rivers and more, the movie sure to whet your appetite -- and bring back some fun memories.
