Everyone's complaining about the cost of health care, and the plight of people with no health insurance and medical bills to pay is very real. Take, for example, local photographer Judy Sanchez: Recently hospitalized, she ended up needing a cardiac arrhythmia procedure and was left owing a substantial amount of money.

To help, the Camera Obscura Gallery and the adjacent Wilson Adams Gallery are using First Friday power to hold And the Beat Goes On: A Benefit for Jude, taking place tonight from 5 to 9 p.m. "We're having a silent art auction," says Camera Obscura's Loretta Young-Gautier. "We have mostly photographs, but also some sculpture and some paintings and pastels. There will also be a couple of little miscellaneous items like note cards."

The Wilson Adams Gallery is at 1307 Bannock Street, and Camera Obscura is at 1309 Bannock; call 303-623-4059 for information. If you can't attend the benefit but would still like to donate money for Sanchez, visit www.cameraobscuragallery.com.
Fri., Nov. 2, 5:30-9 p.m., 2007
