Looking for some good July 4 pre-game fun? Tonight, the Civic Center Conservancy and Anadarko present Independence Eve at Civic Center Park, a night of fireworks and music set to the quintessential patriotic backdrop of Denver’s City and County Building. The Colorado Symphony Orchestra — along with the guest vocals of Opie Gone Bad’s Jake Schroeder — will play patriotic standards and pop hits for this free, BYO-blanket-and-lawn-chair spectacular. Attendees can bring a picnic or buy dinner from an array of food trucks that will be parked nearby.

“One of the goals of the Conservancy is to give more people more reason to come to Civic Center Park,” says director Lindy Eichenbaum Lent of the nonprofit, which was created in 2004. Last year’s event brought an estimated 100,000 people down for the light show.

Independence Eve is free and begins tonight at 8 p.m. at Civic Center Park, near the intersection of Colfax Avenue and Broadway. Spots on the lawn are first-come-first-served, so early arrival is suggested. For more information on tonight’s fireworks and music show, visit www.civiccenterconservancy.org.
