The Love of Three Oranges is a classic Italian commedia dell’arte that Obscene/Courageous company members translated themselves, adding contemporary twists — such as Harry Potter jokes and the sensibilities of Japanese anime — to bring it into the modern age. The play follows a cursed prince as he searches through an anime-inspired world for three oranges before he can find his true love. The audience will meet a series of screwball, cartoon-like characters in this fantastical production, from an evil witch to, as Crockarell describes, “a lady whose boobs are so huge they hang down to the floor, and — this is part of the original fairy tale — the evil witch won’t give her a broom, so she has to sweep the floor with her boobs.”
The Love of Three Oranges runs today through February 23 at 8 p.m., and February 24 at 2 p.m. at the We’re House, 5763 Arapahoe Avenue, Unit P, in Boulder, next to Avery Brewing Company.
