For Denver’s Tranzcend drag and burlesque troupe, performance is all about fluidity. In tonight’s presentation, Under the Covers, drag kings and dancing queens will take on each other’s personae, trading roles and bringing favorite songs to life with lip-synching and seductive choreographed numbers.

“Tranzcend provides opportunities for us to try out different styles of gender performance,” says member Patti LaFemme, who performs alongside her partner, Marvin Gay. The group, LaFemme explains, aims to elevate the traditional “drag show” experience by offering a space for performers to move freely through different gender roles in an entertaining way.

Beyond the fun, Tranzcend also supports local nonprofits, hosting several benefits a year for the likes of Urban Peak and various animal-rights organizations. The group has also been featured on the main stage at Denver’s annual PrideFest — a move that helped introduce its members to a whole new audience, LaFemme says.

Doors for Under the Covers open at 8 p.m. and the program starts at 9 at Eden Bar and Cuisine Lounge, 3090 Downing Street. Tickets to the eighteen-and-up show are $5 and can be purchased at the door or through www.brownpapertickets.com. For more information, visit www.facebook.com/tranzcend.
