lthough we no longer live in the days of the Wild West, it's tough to get away from our Western roots here in Denver, with events like the National Western Stock Show, summertime rodeos and more bringing history to life. And why bother escaping? The West has so much to offer thinkers, dreamers and doers. The Denver Public Library's Fresh City Life program is taking the ethos of the West to heart with its Wild, Wilde West theme, and today it offers up the first of three Chuckwagon and Campfire Cooking Demos to help satisfy our hunger for it.

Today's program features Rosalie Tallbull, who will demonstrate the method for making traditional Native American fry bread and wajapi, a pudding made of dried blueberries. Another demo will examine pioneer foods from the Santa Fe Trail (hosted by the Fort's Holly Arnold Kinney), while a special chuckwagon program helps celebrate Denver's birthday. All events are free and take place in the Denver Central Library, 10 West 14th Avenue Parkway; visit www.denverlibrary.org/programs/fresh/index.html or call 720-865-1111.
