Some folks will head for the hills today, others for the backyard grill. Some will be found feeding their faces in Civic Center Park at Taste of Colorado. And a hardy few will spend at least part of their Labor Day stretching their legs on a run through three to four of Denver’s loveliest parks. The Aetna Park to Park Run, which comes with a choice of five- and ten-mile courses, is becoming an annual tradition — and not a bad one at that. With luck and a good running time, you might still make it to that barbecue. Then again, you might want to stop and smell the flowers along the way.

The five-miler starts at Cheesman Park at 7 a.m., and the ten-miler kicks off from City Park at 7:30; both make their way to Washington Park and end up at the All City Stadium at Franklin Street and Florida Avenue. Entry fees are $60 to $70, and there is no race-day registration; visit aetnaparktopark.com or go to the Aetna Park to Park Facebook page for course maps and details on how, when and where to register in the days before the race. Proceeds benefit the Rocky Mountain chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
